This chimney was falling apart and had to be reconstructed. Removing the old chimney was difficult because a ‘new’ chimney had been built over the original chimney, and the flues were rickety and improperly installed. We had to use a drill to weaken the old bricks and mortar and a concrete saw to break it apart. Taking it down piece by piece and bringing materials to the roof were a challenge we met with scaffolding and ladders. Cold temperatures made the mortar set slowly, so we had to heat it up to speed the process a bit.
